Parents and Community
Disney parents have many ways of contributing to the school’s continuous development, including becoming active in the PTA, becoming involved in the Parent Advisory Council, and collaborating with teachers on the creation of the dazzling student performances presented by each grade each year in the Communication Arts Center.
There are also special events for families such as art night, computer coding, literacy night, college and career night and multi-cultural evenings celebrating the school’s diversity. Disney also works to help educate families on topics such as Common Core State Standards and financial literacy.
None of this is possible without our community partners. Working with our Alderman, Disney families celebrated with each other by dancing through the decades in the “Dancing in the Park” event, refreshing themselves from food trucks brought in especially for the parties. Innovative arts programming has been developed in partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Second City, the Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE), the Blue Man Group, theater director Arnold Aprill, and an amazing Japanese drumming troupe. Further partnerships also include the NFL and a wild animal expert who brought in a live alligator for the students to see and touch while our fearless principal rode upon its back!
The lives of our families and the life of our city are intimately interconnected.
