School Bus Transportation 2017 - 2018
2018-19 School Bus Application materials are available. Parents who want bus service next year must complete a new application and return it to the main office by Friday, May 18, 2018, with current proof of address. The deadline for current students to return a bus application for next year to the main office at Disney School is May 18, 2018.
CPS Funding for 2017 - 2018 Magnet School transportation has been provided. Chicago Public School policy requires that students, in kindergarten through eighth grade, live between 1.5 and 6 miles to be eligible for regular bus service. There is no bus service for pre-school children.
School bus service is a privilege; students are asked to honor that privilege by behaving in a respectable and appropriate manner, or bus privileges will be suspended. Appropriate behavior is critical to bus service. Children must remain in their seat at all times and be respectful of each other and the driver. No food, drink, cell phones, video games, balls, etc. are allowed.
If you completed an application for school bus service this spring/summer, it will be processed over the summer. You should receive a post card in the mail from CPS Office of Student Transportation shortly before the school year begins, with detail on the bus route number, bus company providing the service and bus company phone number.
Regular Bus service will begin on Tuesday, September 5. Kindergarten students will begin bus service on Wednesday, September 6. School buses will drop off at Disney School between 7:10 and 7:30 a.m. School begins promptly at 7:30 a.m. School buses will regularly leave Disney in the afternoon between 2:30-2:40 p.m. The bus driver is the best person to advise you of drop off times.
PARK DISTRICT DROP- OFF SERVICE: If you qualify for regular bus service and you have applied for afternoon drop off at an approved Chicago Park District Afterschool Program (Green Form) remind you that this service does not begin for at least the first two weeks of school. Parents who request this service must provide a copy of the park district registration receipt as proof of registration for the after school program. The CPS Bureau of Student Transportation will authorize who and when park district bus service will begin, which is typically late September. Once this service is approved, you will receive a note, via the backpack, with details on when it will begin.
If you do not qualify for regular bus service, because you live outside the mileage requirements, but you have applied for afternoon park district drop off, we remind you that this service is only available if there is extra space on the bus. Information on parks serviced and available space on the bus is not available until a few weeks after school begins.
PARENTS: If there is an emergency or other situation and your child will not ride the school bus in the afternoon, for safety reasons, you must send a note with your child in the morning or fax to the office by noon to fax number 773/534-5714. Requests received to keep your child off the afternoon bus received either via the phone or a late in-person request, will not be accepted. Security and safety protocol dictates that without a written request/instructions, we will be putting your child on the bus.
